In the age of social distancing, it\u2019s pretty difficult for brands to get themselves out there in the way they could have even just one year ago. When I was invited by made.com<\/a> to browse their AW20 trends at their Amsterdam apartment – by way of virtual reality – I was intrigued by what I\u2019d find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, I received an exciting delivery a few days before the virtual apartment was unveiled, containing everything I needed to prep for the trend showcase. A virtual reality headset (all I needed to do was download an app and pop my phone in the device) along with some more information about the trends themselves, and I was good to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trends themselves have been split into three categories – Nordic Move On<\/strong>, Luxe Maximalist<\/strong>, and The New Soft<\/strong>. Nordic Move On is grown up, sophisticated and soft – think deep colours, and craftmanship with a scandi undertone. The New Soft is slouchy, relaxed and chilled, with exactly the type of pieces you can imagine curling up infront of the fire with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, the showstopper trend has to be Luxe Maximalist – plush velvet (without a doubt my favourite fabric) is paired with brass accents and outlandish silhouettes. made.com<\/a> describe the trend as \u2018design drama\u2019 which fits perfectly with my personal ethos when it comes to interiors – I\u2019m all about clashing colours, prints, textures – and then adding more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Amsterdam showroom is the perfect place to house these trends. It\u2019s an open and airy space with tall windows and even taller ceilings, so how can this trend convert and work for me in my 100-year-old, teeny tiny terraced house?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to following trends in interior design, I think the outcome has to be a lot more thought out than, for example, trends in fashion. I look at all of my furniture pieces as investments and I know they\u2019ll be lasting far beyond a season, and I think made.com<\/a> has created the perfect juxtaposition between trend-let items and forever pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of each collections, there are options to update your home easily and efficiently (think cushions for the sofa or a statement vase or two), and chances to transform an entire room with a piece that will last for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
